patient's upper left tooth (your right) was fitted with a
non-metal reinforced porcelain (Complete Porcelain)
crown.
One
of the more difficult challenges in dentistry is to successfully
match the color of a single front tooth crown to an adjacent
uncrowned tooth. Porcelain veneers are the ideal, but if the
tooth is crowned already, there is no choice but to provide
another crown. The features of a successful esthetic restoration
(crown in this case) are:
A)
Health of the gum around the crown. This is made possible
by proper tooth preparation and accurate impressions that
provide a 'perfect' fit. Also, a proper fitting and appearing
temporary crown which allows esthetic assessment and development
as well as gum health prior to the making of the final crown.
B)
Natural color and translucency through excellent,
out of the ordinary laboratory technology. The dental laboratory
industry, like any other business - profession or trade -
typically offers "average", or "usual and customary"
products. But, like a Monet or Chardin, there are true artists
out there who really "know their stuff" and provide
an "out of the ordinary" result. A conscientious,
non-insurance driven dentist who has a relationship with one
of these rare individuals can provide awesome, undetectable
results.
Also,
today we have porcelain technology that offers strong porcelain
crowns with no metal understructure which, when accompanied
by an amazingly good fit at the gumline, contributes to a
result such as seen here. |
